therapy that translates insight into impact.

Life throws a lot our way, doesn't it? From personal hurdles to relationship dynamics, sometimes it feels like we're navigating a maze without a map. I'm Alex Carone, an EMDR therapist and coach for parents in Northern Colorado, here to help you make sense of all the twists and turns. EMDR therapy with me isn’t only about talking through your challenges; it's about actively moving towards a life where you feel more in sync with yourself, your partner, and your family. With your lived experiences as our starting point, we'll navigate the complexities of personal and relational growth by leveraging the science of EMDR therapy to rewire emotional responses, directly addressing the root of distress and destructive conflict - because support for parents benefits the entire family system.

therapy with me.

At the heart of my practice is a grounded belief in the resilience and inherent goodness of every individual. My journey into EMDR therapy for couples and parents is driven by a desire to offer more than traditional talk therapy— facilitating real change, rooted in the science of how our brains process (and our bodies store) experiences. As a wife and mom of two myself, I can personally identify with the transformative experiences that come with this stage of life. I have found, both personally and professionally, that relationships and parenthood can be the ultimate catalysts for change and growth.

In our sessions, you can expect a down-to-earth approach that’s as warm as it is direct. We'll get to know each other and develop an authentic relationship during the early phases of EMDR, before diving into the core of how your brain processes experiences, including memories, sensations, and emotions. Sometimes our brains struggle to fully process difficult experiences or feelings - these unprocessed memories and feelings can then become “stuck,” influencing our current behavior and emotional responses in ways that might not align with our values or how we wish to live our lives. These stuck points are what cause “triggers” in our everyday lives or relationships, setting off reactions that are based on past distress rather than our current reality.

Our work together involves using EMDR to activate these stuck neural networks, creating an opportunity for your brain to reprocess these experiences. This work aims to integrate these previously isolated memories and feelings into your brain and body in a more adaptive, healthy way. As a result, you'll likely find that the triggers that once led to emotional overwhelm and distressing reactions become less potent, allowing for responses that are more in tune with your present self and goals.

This therapy isn't just about dealing with the past; it's equally focused on improving your present and building a more resilient future. By addressing these underlying issues, we’ll enhance your capacity to handle life's challenges with more flexibility and less distress.
